A Magical Character Meeting

Posted on 8/09/2011 by Bruce G.

Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail Black. Please Stand Clear of the Doors and Enjoy the ride as we share with you our favorite character moments.

As usual, my son, John is with me and since I thought I knew what his favorite character memory is(it is one of mine also), I thought it would be good for him to share it as part of today’s Blogorail.. Please enjoy our conversation about this favorite character memory of ours.

So, John, What is your favorite character memory? Would it be a Dining experience? Or meeting Lilo and Stitch in Animal Kingdom for the first time?

I think it would be that one. That was in Animal Kingdom? Huh, that’s when I was young I was just a lad.

So, do you remember much about that?

I remember wearing my Stitch shirt and him getting all excited about it. That’s about it. Then he signed my autograph book.

Stitch actually did get all excited because John was wearing a Stitch shirt. He got down and looked at the shirt and tugged at it and spent a rather long time playing with John, before he signed his autograph book and we got pictures taken.

So, why was that such a great thing?

Because they were my favorite characters at the time, because of the movie.

This was one of our first trips down to Disney as a family and John loved Stitch. He got a stuffed Stitch, Stitch shirts, a glowing Stitch spinning toy, and he even got a Stitch tattoo that trip.

That was the first time you actually saw them?

Yes.

Had you been looking forward to seeing them?

Yes, I’d say so. I think we were searching for them.

And we didn’t have any luck anywhere else,

No we didn’t.

We had been looking for them all over. We asked in the Magic Kingdom and they said sometimes they show up in Tomorrowland, and other times they were at the front gate, but no one could tell us when or if they would be out. Coincidentally it was July 17th, the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, we went to Animal Kingdom and…

And we just kind of came upon them.

Yes, we didn’t know they were there. It was all luck, we just kind of found them and there wasn’t much of a line or anything.

So, it was kind of Magical?

Yea, you could say that.

Do you remember how you felt?

I was nervous. I was kind of shy, it was my favorite character so, you know.

He was 8 at the time. And he has always been polite and shy around his favorite characters or sports stars or whatever.

What was the best part of meeting him that day?

I guess you could say, because it was so magical, I know that is cliché, but it was my first favorite character I got to meet.

Anything else you remember or would like to say about this character meeting?

It shows that the characters pop up when you least expect them. I mean we weren’t expecting to see them there.

This is a true unknown magic that happens in Disney World all the time. We have seen a few characters we never thought we would see or never expected to see in some really obscure places.

Anything else?

That’s about it.

That's cool. Lilo and Stitch were the very first characters we encountered on our family trip in 2005. I think we met them at that same location.

What a special moment When Joey first met Buzz (he was just 14 months and loved Buzz), he was wearing a Buzz sweatshirt. Buzz made the biggest deal over it. Joey was just beaming ear to ear. The characters certainly do make Disney extra special by noticing the little things, like t-shirts! :-)
