What We Have to Do

Posted on 9/13/2011 by Bruce G.

Welcome to those of you joining me from Mommy Mouseketeer and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail. At the Unknown Magic Within Walt Disney World, my 15 year old son John helps with my Tuesday articles. These are the exact answers John supplies to my questions and these are the real entire conversations we have on whatever topic we are discussing. It is all from the mind of a teeneager. Enjoy.

So John, for this Blogorail topic of Family Traditions in Disney World, what should we talk about?

Family Traditions. (smirking)

Smirk it up funny guy. Let’s try something else. What Family Traditions do we have when we go to Disney World?

(Still Smirking….) We usually go to Big River at least once. It’s not a big Tradition, but…

But it is one.

Big River is the Big River Brew Pub that is located on the Boardwalk.

When did we start doing that?

I think maybe the first time we went down to Disney World. (2005)

And did we search it out the first time, or just kind of happen upon it.

I think we kind of happened upon it; we stayed at the Boardwalk, so I think we happened upon it.

Actually what John doesn’t know is I wanted to try the beer, since it is a brew-pub and his mom and I planned on going there for that lunch.

So, why do we go back every time now?

‘Cause the burgers are amazing. And we usually go to the Boardwalk while we are there, because we love it so much.

Do we have to go to Big River for a specific meal? Like the first in Disney or the last?

I don’t think it really matters, it usually isn’t that busy, and so we just go when we’re there. Our first meal in Disney has been varying.

Actually, we do try to make it one of our first meals in Disney, usually after we get to the Boardwalk or Beach Club and are waiting for our room after checking-in, we head to Big River.

Big River is definitely a Family Tradition, lately when we have been going down; I have been trying to do something at the end of each trip have you noticed?

Shaking his head no- uhhh

Where do we end up eating the last night? Let me give you a clue, why would we have to eat at a specific time?

Fireworks or a parade.

And…

I don’t know, why.

You haven’t noticed. That we have been eating at ‘Ohana for our last meal the last few years?

No. But now that you say that we have been and then watching the Fireworks from the Magic Kingdom.

Usually at the Polynesian.

Yeah….

So, that has become a tradition of ours

Without me noticing…

And the Big River is definitely one.

I’m hungry now.

We really don’t have a lot of Disney Traditions do we?

No, we have a few, but I think just enough. I mean you shouldn’t have too many. If you do it gets boring. You have to keep it fresh every time.

Well, Said John.

Indeed.

So, your advice about Traditions in Disney?

Always have a few, but don’t go overboard.

Once again, well said. Thank you John.

You’re welcome Sir.

Those are some great traditions. We've never eaten at Big River - but we are doing 'Ohana for our first time on our next trip and, you'll be so proud, we're doing it as our LAST meal! Can't wait!

We have a first meal and a last meal tradition. I will say we haven't tried Big River yet, though we keep saying we will. I may have to make sure this trip we do!
